Companies are required to spend 1.5% of total project expenditure on compliant aboriginal participation programs.  These compliant programs can be either

(a) Direct Expenditure

Includes direct employment of aboriginals, education expenses, payments to aboriginal organisations or other approved expenditure.  Direct expenditure can also include contractors and goods or services bought from companies such as Banarang Aboriginal Corporation.

(b) Indirect Expenditure

Includes expenses related to cultural awareness and mentoring for employees and sub-contractors and expenses not directly related to the project but contribute to education and employment goals outlined by the NSW Government in OCHRE.
